Yangon is Myanmar's largest city and the most service-rich option in the country, but wheelchair accessibility remains difficult. Bring extra medication and written care instructions; do not rely on finding specialized equipment quickly.

Costs are not the only concern. A good accessible apartment or hotel needs step-free entrance, working elevator, backup power, bathroom access and reliable transport pickup. Pay more for proven access and management responsiveness. If you need daily assistance, arrange it before arrival through trusted local contacts.

Yangon is hot, humid and monsoonal. Heat, flooding and power cuts can all become accessibility issues. Air-conditioning, shaded transfers, backup charging for mobility equipment and flexible rainy-season plans are essential.

Shwedagon Pagoda— The official pagoda site says the main platform, information centers and concessions are wheelchair accessible, with Southern Stairway elevators and limited wheelchairs on a first-come basis; still call ahead for current assistance.

Kandawgyi Lake area— A classic Yangon outdoor stop; choose paved sections and go with local support because boardwalk and curb conditions can vary.

Bogyoke Aung San Market— Useful for a central outing, but aisles, crowds and thresholds may be difficult; visit at quieter times with a companion.

Maha Bandula Park / Sule area— Central landmarks can be seen with vehicle drop-offs, but crossings and sidewalks require caution.

Burmese is the main language, with English more common in hotels, clinics and tourism-facing services. Accessibility information is sparse, so use direct phone confirmation and keep a local helper involved.

Only for experienced travelers with private transport, backup plans and local support. Yangon has major cultural rewards, but access friction is high even though the terrain is flat.
