Mykonos wheelchair accessibility guide

Research Mykonos for wheelchair users and caregivers: getting around, terrain, healthcare, costs, climate, accessible things to do, and practical caveats before booking.

Last updated 6/30/2026

At a glance

Mykonos Town's **cobblestone maze and steps** are extremely difficult for wheelchairs. Newer resort bays (**Ornos, Platis Gialos, Agios Ioannis**) offer relatively better access than the historic harbour core. Expect to use taxis and stay close to your hotel for most activities.

Getting around

Public buses exist but **lift equipment is unreliable** — private accessible van hire from Mykonos Town or tour operators is safer. Mykonos Airport (JMK) and Tourlos port — **pre-book assistance**.

Terrain & mobility

Town centre: **very difficult** — marble cobbles and steps. Southern beaches: **gentler slopes** to sand. Delos and many archaeological sites involve **unpaved or stepped** terrain.

Healthcare & care

Mykonos Health Centre handles basics; serious cases go to Syros or Athens. Limited wheelchair repair — carry tools and spare tubes.

Costs & housing

Premium summer pricing. See Costs tab — **from ~$3,400/mo** estimate.

Climate & comfort

Hot, windy, dry summers; mild off-season. Wind on exposed coastal paths affects manual control — plan routes behind building lines.

Accessible things to do

Ornos Beach— Flatter resort strip with rollable taverna fronts and sand approaches — among the island's easier beach bases.

Platis Gialos— Wide beach with several hotels offering step-free pool areas — good for resort-centred stays.

Mykonos Town waterfront (Chora, outer ring)** — Partially rollable **outer harbour walk**; **inner alleys and Little Venice are not accessible— view from the waterfront only.

Delos day trip** — Archaeological island with **rough terrain and no accessible infrastructure— generally **not recommended** for wheelchair visitors.

Port of Tourlos— Main ferry port with better vehicle access than old harbour; request ramp assistance from ferry operators when booking.

Community & language

English in tourism. EU accessibility standards apply; historic town fabric limits compliance in Chora.

Would we recommend it?

**Maybe from a resort bay base** (Ornos, Platis Gialos) — **not recommended** for exploring Mykonos Town independently in a manual chair.
